Hook Norton Veterinary Group offers specialist Small Animal, Equine, & Farm 24-hour care across a wide geographic area. With additional branches in Charlbury, Deddington and Moreton-in-Marsh, we deliver unrivalled veterinary care to these areas and the surrounding villages. 

Due to continued growth, we now have a permanent opportunity within our Small Animal Reception Team based between our Hospital at Hook Norton and our local branches. 

The role 

Don’t be fooled by the title, this is not your average reception role.   

You will thrive in a fast paced environment where multi-tasking and responding to urgent requests in a calm and efficient manner won’t phase you and you will relish being part of a large, well established team. 

You will enjoy variety and in addition to greeting clients and call handling, you will undertake dispensing duties, stock rotation, complex appointment management and processing payments as well as taking pride in maintaining a clean and tidy reception area. 

To be successful, you will have outstanding people skills combined with a friendly telephone manner and the proven ability to handle both sensitive and challenging situations.   

Full training of our practice management system will be provided but it is essential that you are a competent IT user and you can quickly learn new systems.   

Hours and Shift Pattern

Working hours are approximately 30 hours per week split over 5 days. We have a rotational shift pattern, one week of mornings followed by one week of afternoons, the shifts being: 

  • Morning Shift – 7.45 am till 2 pm
  • Afternoon Shift – 1.30 pm till 7 pm

There may be some flexibility in hours, please state what pattern you would ideally prefer at the application stage so this can be considered.

The Essentials

  • A minimum of 2 years’ customer service experience dealing with the public face to face – this could be gained in a clinical, retail or hospitality environment 

  • Ability to follow instruction and strict protocols 

  • Impressive communication skills, ability to assess sensitive situations and deal with them professionally  

  • Demonstrable IT skills up to advanced level 

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining accuracy 

Package Overview 

  • Hourly rate £9.90 increasing to £10.44 per hour after successful probation period 

  • Our operational hours are currently 7.45am – 7pm Monday to Friday, shifts are offered within these hours plus 1 in 5 Saturday’s (7.45am to 2.15pm)
