Employment Type:
Part Time
Role:
Veterinary Nurse
Required Experience:
1-3 years experience

Portland Vets is one of the few remaining independent veterinary practices, with sites in East Grinstead, Edenbridge, Horley, and a new purpose-built, multi-storey hospital opening soon in Crawley.

The practice prides itself on being innovative and forward-thinking, regularly updating protocols based on current evidence-based medicine and in-house audits.

The Edenbridge practice was purpose-designed and opened in 2013 to provide a comfortable workspace with a layout that optimises workflow from consultation rooms and wards to prep and theatre. Facilities include an in-house laboratory, ultrasound, dental X-ray, and multi-parameter monitoring. The Edenbridge clinic is unique in the area for having a stand-alone cat-only clinic adjacent to the main practice. Portland Vets is a gold standard ISFM cat-friendly practice, demonstrating a commitment to providing the highest quality care for feline patients.

The team is committed to continuous improvement and keen to invest in both staff and facilities to support this.

The Team

Portland Vets has a friendly, supportive team that enjoys working together to provide the best care for patients, led by a compassionate leadership group. The experienced clinical team at Edenbridge includes three vets (plus rotating new graduates), three RVNs, one SVN, two PCAs, and two receptionists, with a wide range of interests. The practice encourages and supports the development of skills and knowledge. Nurses are able to use all of their clinical skills and pursue areas of special interest.

The Role

This is a fixed-term, part-time maternity cover RVN role based at the Edenbridge site, working 24 hours per week across 8-hour shifts between 8.30am and 6.30pm. There are no weekend or out-of-hours requirements. Shifts include consulting, surgery, and inpatient care.

Portland Vets prides itself on being an excellent training centre and shaping the next generation of nurses, so being a clinical coach or being willing to become one would be an added bonus.

The practice offers a competitive salary and benefits package including five weeks’ holiday plus bank holidays, RCVS fees paid, and a generous CPD budget.

Salary range: £13.65–£16.00 per hour, depending on experience (FTE £28,392–£33,280 per annum).

Portland Vets is passionate about creating a space where staff feel valued, motivated, and empowered to make a real difference for the animals in their care.

Qualified RVNs seeking a positive and rewarding work environment are encouraged to apply.

To apply, please email a CV to branch manager Alison at alison@portlandvets.co.uk

Portland Vets looks forward to hearing from interested candidates.
