Due to continuing expansion and growth we are looking to recruit 3 additional small animal vets to complement our current team of 9 vets. This opportunity is open to graduates and experienced vets.

We are a well-established, very proud independent, progressive practice in Pembrokeshire, where we have stunning beaches and countryside, and a great work / life balance. We pride ourselves in a first class service, practising to a high standard, with our priorities based on excellent service and staff well-being. We are expanding to meet our growing client base and varied caseload.

1. Experienced vet, preferably with an interest in medicine (could include imaging and endoscopy)
2. New graduate or recently qualified wishing to gain experience in a supportive team with varied caseload
3. Night or weekend vet - flexible package to suit the right person. (currently we do our own out of hours so this is a new post designed to improve everyone’s quality of life!)

We have a recently refurbished practice, gold cat friendly accreditation and all the kit and clinical experience across the team to be doing work at this level, for example, gastroscopy, BAL, rhinoscopy, dental x-rays, orthopaedics including TTA’s, echocardiography, TECA’s, perineal hernia repair and BOAS surgery. We are VetGDP registered and can offer whatever support is necessary to the right candidate. We cover our own out-of-hours, equally shared, currently 1:9. And our rota means weekend shifts do not add working days to your normal week.

About the work and our facilities
We aim for excellent customer service and practice to a high clinical standard, so invest in staff, facilities and equipment to meet these evolving targets. We have a truly mixed clientele and a rewarding and varied caseload. We are a nurse training practice, and while yet to put ourselves through the RCVS PSS scheme set ourselves the aim to be of a hospital level (without being on site overnight) at our main site in Haverfordwest, and Tier 2 at the Pembroke Dock branch. We have achieved ISFM cat friendly status: gold in Haverfordwest and bronze in Pembroke Dock. Haverfordwest has four consulting rooms, plus a dedicated cat room, and quiet room. Separate dog, cat and isolation wards. Central prep room leading to two theatres, dental room and X-ray. Our lab room has the latest suite of kit for haematology, biochemistry and urinalysis from IDEXX. We have digital X-ray, digital dental X-ray, gastroscope, 4mm bronchoscopy/rhinoscope, ultrasound with colour doppler, ECG, MMP TTA, etc. The Pembroke Dock branch has two consulting rooms, prep with recovery kennels, theatre, and main inpatient ward.

About the job on offer, and about you
We are growing, so to maintain our service standards and ethos of staff wellbeing we need to recruit. Potentially a general practitioner, a medicine specialist and an out of hours’ vet! In today’s busy recruitment market, it is still important we find the right person to fit into our practice, but we have the strength in depth, experience, funding and vision to be able to adapt and develop a role to suit you. So we would be willing to support and develop a new graduate, help someone progress their career or explore a niche interest, consider a flexible or novel working rota, or work with your vision to create an advanced and rewarding position for a medicine certificate holder.

About the practice
Fenton Vets are a proudly independent, Pembrokeshire based practice that can trace its origins back to 1950. We serve both pets and farms with a constantly growing staff of approximately 50, we are proud to boast that a few have been with us for several decades. Despite separate SA and farm clinical teams, and a SA branch practice we value staff wellbeing, all know one another and describe ourselves as family. We are an active member of XL vets as we feel there are real benefits to our staff and business from participating within this community of independent practices with a common culture and values. www.xlvets.co.uk

About the location
Pembrokeshire is a gem for anyone loving the outdoors and the coast in particular. Words cannot really do it justice so if you haven’t experienced it before, come and visit for a few days, use us as your tourist guide, and see for yourself why we are all so happy to live here.

About the package

Days: Our ‘full timers’ work 4.5days a week (less than 40hours), we recognise this doesn’t suit everyone and can offer less. Hours: 8.30am-5.30pm unless on call when consulting finishes at 6.30pm. OOH: this is an equally shared rota, with a nurse to back you up and phones answered by a handling service. We currently have two vets over the weekend, but this was introduced to help us best manage the COVID related working challenge, and remains under constant review. Each weekend day is counted as one of your full days that week. Holidays: 4weeks + bank holidays, plus a couple more days over the Christmas fortnight.
