Full Time
Veterinary Surgeon
Required Experience:

Open to applications from new and recent graduates

We are a proudly independent farm practice formed after our local mixed practice split into small and farm divisions. Our youngest vet is heading to New Zealand so we are on the lookout for a farm vet to join us.

This position would suit a new or recent graduate as we are a very supportive team with forward-thinking, progressive vets.

About us
Located in Pickering, North Yorkshire, we are perfectly positioned for the seaside, the North York Moors and not far from the historic city of York.

Our clients are 30% dairy, the remainder split between beef and sheep. We have a fantastic mix of clients, from progressive dairies to small, traditional herds, with Pedigree Beef and Sheep to commercial sucklers and hill ewes. A scattering of small-holders and some goats for good measure.

We support our local farming community by running regular ‘clubs’ and meetings for our farm clients. We also deliver Red Tractor-approved training courses to improve farmers’ awareness and knowledge of responsible medicine use.

We have on-site facilities for the hospitalisation of small ruminants and surgical procedures.

You can find out more about the services we provide to our clients on our website: https://www.derwentvalefarmvets.co.uk/services

The support
You will be supported by a great team of support staff, including a Farm – SQP and RVN. A designated 2nd vet will support new graduates on call until they are comfortable. All vets have a nurse on call during the busy season for help with OOH work. We also have 2 vets working towards certificates and a DBR holder within the team.

Graduate-specific training and CPD are offered via the XLVets Farm Graduate Development Programme. You can find out more about the programme here.
