Century-old independent practice becomes newest member of XLVets

2 Feb 2021

Garston Veterinary Group, which is celebrating its 110th anniversary this year, has become the newest member of the independent XLVets community. The practice is based in Frome, Somerset and has been providing veterinary services across the area since 1911. Garston Veterinary Group is proud of its independent heritage, and is pleased to strengthen this by joining the XLVets community of like-minded practices.

Since its establishment over a century ago Garston Veterinary Group has become part of the fabric of the Frome area, providing small animal, farm and equine services as well as catering for the myriad of species at Longleat Safari Park. With this strong heritage, the practice has gained a place in the hearts of local residents. “We’re proud of our long-standing relationships with clients in this area,” says Chris Mangham, a farm vet and partner at Garston Veterinary Group. “We’re always working to maintain and develop our precious reputation as a trusted local provider of veterinary care.”

Though the practice has been in business for more than a lifetime, it has grown and developed dramatically since its humble beginnings. Now it has five small animal surgeries, four of which are in Wiltshire, as well as thriving farm and equine units. The practice currently employs a team of over 30 vets and 30 nurses.

Garston Veterinary Group prides itself on delivering high standards of clinical care and runs its own healthcare schemes for small animal, farm and equine clients. The practice provides its own out of hours service with a veterinary nurse on-site 24 hours a day. A key part of the practice ethos is to invest in new facilities and equipment, and the team now offer a wide range of small animal services including laparoscopic bitch spays and K laser therapy. On the large animal side, an advanced breeding and embryo transfer service is one of the many services available to beef, dairy, pedigree and commercial farms.

Despite the challenges of this year, the last few months have been a busy and exciting time for Garston. Not only have they rebranded and developed a new website celebrating their local heritage and independence, they have also joined the XLVets community.

Chris Mangham explains the reasons behind this decision. “For some years now we’ve held the XLVets group in high regard,” he says. “We’ve known that it’s so much more than a buying group. For us, the real benefit is to be part of the community, so our vets have the opportunity to communicate with other like minded professionals and get involved with CPD schemes.”

Susan Goodfellow, Chief Marketing Officer at XLVets, explains that the community is very pleased to welcome Garston. “We’re delighted that Garston is now part of XLVets,” she says. “We’re proud to be joined by a forward-thinking practice with expertise across all species – and given their safari park work that really does mean all species! Garston shares our drive to be at the forefront of clinical practice, they have an enviable heritage and reputation and as such we know they’ll add great value to our growing community.”
