Employment Type:
Full Time
Role:
Veterinary Surgeon
Required Experience:
+3 years experience

We are seeking a friendly and team-focused Veterinary Surgeon with 2-5 years of experience. This is an excellent opportunity for career development and the pursuit of specific interests, whether they are clinically focused, mentoring and teaching junior colleagues, or supporting business development. Our proudly independent, mixed practice primarily focuses on small animals, with potential involvement in equine work as an advantage.

Located in beautiful mid Devon near Exeter, our practice offers a 4-day work week, allowing for a great work/life balance. We have purpose-built small animal facilities that are continuously improving, including ongoing work to extend our prep and kennel area. Our practice boasts laparoscopic capabilities, a full range of endoscopes, dental radiography, ultrasound, and upcoming upgrades to our radiography to DR. Additionally, we have an onsite rehabilitation team with underwater treadmill and laser, as well as visiting orthopaedics and ophthalmology services.

Construction of equine hospitalisation facilities is currently underway. Our approachable team is experienced in providing an environment for colleagues to thrive. We take pride in covering our own out-of-hours rota, ensuring continuity of care for our clients and their pets. This also allows our vets and nurses to develop essential skills in managing emergency cases from start to finish. Support and advice are readily available from our team whenever needed. To balance night work with time off, we have implemented a block week on-call arrangement with daytime breaks.

We value strong client relationships and offer 15-minute appointments as standard. As active members of the XLVets community, we provide a supportive network of colleagues for advice, guidance, and camaraderie. Participation in the XLVets CPD Programme is encouraged, where you can meet peers from similar practices and attend courses on mentoring, leadership, difficult conversations, and clinically focused topics. If desired, we will support and fund your pursuit of a certificate for a more clinical focus.

  • 4-day work week
  • 1 in 6 rota (on-site accommodation available for on-call duties if desired)
  • On-site night nursing support
  • Block week of on-call with daytime breaks
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • Generous CPD allowance
  • Pension scheme
  • Staff discounts
  • Employee assistance programme
