Exciting opportunities have arisen for enthusiastic individuals to train as Approved Tuberculin Testers within Torch Farm and Equine Ltd
Torch Farm Vets is a farm animal practice covering much of North and West Devon, and into Somerset and Cornwall. We pride ourselves in providing a high quality local service to our clients. Our team of 5 TB testers are integral to helping us provide that service and we are looking to strengthen the team by training Approved Tuberculin Testers to join them.
Training for the position involves a theory course online with Improve International. On successful completion of an exam you will receive authorisation to commence practical training under the close and direct supervision of an Approved Veterinary Supervisor. It is anticipated the training will take approximately 4 months. Becoming a fully qualified Approved Tuberculin Tester is reliant on a successful audit by an external governing body following this extended period of practical training and assessment with a Torch Supervisor/Deputy Supervisor
Responsibilities of a qualified ATT include:
- Conduct day 1 and day 2 TB skin tests in accordance with APHA’s standards and operating procedures.
- Maintain biosecurity/ keep equipment clean and well maintained
- Interpret test results and take necessary actions
- Use electronic TB handheld equipment
- Record and report TB results in a timely manner
- Provide a high quality service to clients
The position is 4 days per week, working Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Start times will vary depending on client requirements, therefore a degree of flexibility is required. Training salary of £22,000 rising once qualified. We expect that the successful candidate will be earning £28,000 after 12 months.
The successful candidate will have the flexibility to adapt to different situations in a calm, sensitive and diplomatic manner, but also have the enthusiasm, drive and organisational skills to work independently. There is a minimum requirement of 12 months cattle handling experience, including having familiarity with facilities associated with organising herds for TB testing or similar. Hands on farm management experience or a higher level agricultural qualification is desirable but not essential. A current driving license is needed and a good knowledge of the local geographic area will be advantageous.
