Employment Type:
Full Time
Role:
Veterinary Surgeon
Required Experience:
1-3 years experience

Due to wanderlust, we are currently looking for a mixed animal veterinary surgeon with at least 1-2 years relevant clinical experience. We are Scotland’s largest independent practice celebrating our 75th anniversary this year, with a genuine mix of 60% small animal, 30% farm animal and 10% equine. As such we are able to offer the desired species balance to the successful candidate.

We believe in making sure our team have the best work/life balance as possible and are therefore happy to explore flexible working hours if desired. Our world class 1-in-15 on call rota means the majority of your evenings and weekends are free to be enjoyed and 38.5 days holiday per annum is standard for full-time mixed vets.

With so much free time, you’ll need something to do, but luckily we are situated at the foot of the stunning Angus glens, with an endless list of outdoor activities within immediate reach in the mountains, the forests, the glens or on the rivers, lochs and shoreline. Kirriemuir, Forfar, Blairgowrie and Scone are busy rural towns with social, creative and sports clubs for all and we are in easy reach of Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Glasgow. Very many of our team have come to the area for the job but have chosen to stay and settle because of all our wee corner has to offer them and their families.

We place the happiness and fulfilment of our staff above all, and whilst we may be a big team we try our best to retain a family vibe. In work, we keep close tabs on the pace of work to ensure everyone has plenty of access to the cases they enjoy whilst avoiding being over-loaded. We believe in giving you the space and time to do your job to the best of your ability; we also believe in cups of tea, getting home on time and proper lunch breaks.

We have a defined career pathway for vets; allowing you to find your niche within the practice. If being the best clinician you can be is your thing, then that’s great, but there are also opportunities for mentoring, marketing, social organisation and leadership roles for those that wish to pursue them.

We have all the equipment you would expect to find in a modern mixed-species practice including spacious consulting rooms, laparoscopic surgical kit, in-house orthopaedics, extensive imaging and laboratory facilities, ruminant fertility kit, five large animal scanner, hydraulic cattle crush, mobile X-ray, equine dental power-float and scope.

The package comprises a competitive salary, 5 days CPD, RCVS, VDS, BVA and one other society fees paid. A practice vehicle can be provided for option for both personal use and fuel benefit if desired.

But don’t just take it from us – our leaving vet had this to say about working at Thrums:

“I arrived at Thrums Vets after a difficult start to my professional career. After contemplating leaving the profession, Thrums completely altered my career trajectory for the better. I have absolutely loved the last few years working here. The large dynamic team provided me with a wealth of experience to call upon and created an excellent working and social environment.

There is a real sense of family at Thrums, I’ve always found the directors approachable and supportive and my seniors really seem to care about my development. The nursing team are exceptionally skilled and committed, they work hard but are always up for a laugh, the reception team are an incredible bunch who always do their best to make the day run smoothly, I’ve always been grateful for the way in which they look out for the younger members of the team.”
