Exciting opportunity for a Lead Vet in our Uppingham practice in the beautiful county of Rutland

We are an INDEPENDENT privately owned mixed practice seeking an experienced, ambitious small
animal Veterinary Surgeon to manage and oversee the day-to-day clinical case load and business
operations at our practice in Uppingham.

Offering support and leadership to your colleagues along with mentorship to our graduates, you would
strive to combine the provision of exceptional, bespoke and affordable care with progressive current
best practice in veterinary medicine.

Currently seeking hospital status through the RCVS practice standards scheme, we anticipate further
growth through the expansion of our services.

As you would expect, our 6 small animal practices are all fully equipped with an extensive range of
diagnostic facilities including digital x-ray, ultrasound, biochemistry and haematology machines along
with multi-parameter monitoring and bronchoscope. We are awaiting the imminent arrival of dental x-
ray and gastroscope in Uppingham, only those in our profession can appreciate how excited we are.
Our close-knit team of vets are down to earth, friendly and willing to share their wealth of expertise.
We are fortunate to have a large team of experienced, dedicated RVN’s and support staff, all of whom
share our passion for providing high standards of veterinary care to our patients and their owners.
Certificates are encouraged as our clients would much prefer an increase in our internal expertise.
We have 6 certificate holders across the business with an advanced practitioner in small animal
medicine along with a surgical certificate holder based at the Uppingham site. Several of our RVN’s
hold certificates too and our reception teams are all registered with the BVRA.

Our administrative team, including HR, H&S and finance is there to support and guide you in all the
non-clinical aspects of the business.

We offer a four-day week as a good work-life balance is essential to maintain the high demands of
veterinary life. Time for administration will be built into your working week and the diary is always
adjusted to make way for important appointments, family events and emergencies.
Did we mention that we allow you clinical discretion too? Yes, we do!

We take pride in caring for our own patients out of hours on an equally shared rota, maximum of 1:5
though currently 1:10. Along with the Monday off after your on-call, the three-day weekend following
this is popular among our team. Our experienced, dedicated night nurse team ensure we offer 24-
hour on-site care, as well as taking the out of hours phone calls.

We are members of the XLVets community, collaborating with other like-minded independent
practices; sharing knowledge, ideas and skills. There will be plenty of opportunities to attend XLVets
meetings throughout the course of the year.

In addition to your personal CPD allowance we hold regular inhouse clinical and leadership CPD
events; including ultrasound, dental, positive appraisals to name a few.

This really is a fantastic opportunity!

If you have excellent communication skills, are ambitious and driven, work to a very high standard,
value clinical discretion, would like to be part of a forward-thinking independent practice and work with
a great supportive team, then we would love to hear from you.
Previous leadership experience is essential to performing this role.
In addition to all the above we offer:

  • Salary circa £65-85k
  • 4-day week with administration time built in
  • RCVS fees and Full VDS cover paid
  • Leadership & business development
  • Certificates encouraged and fully funded
